To understand the 1-5 day timeline, here’s a breakdown of the universal steps our certified team follows.
Day 1: Containment and Preparation. This day is all about safety and setup. Before any removal begins, our team creates an airtight containment zone.
All HVAC systems (heating and air conditioning) are shut down and sealed.
The work area is sealed from the rest of the home using heavy-duty plastic sheeting.
We install special negative-air pressure machines that filter the air and ensure no fibers can escape the containment zone.
All surfaces not being abated are covered and protected.
Day 1-3: Asbestos Removal. This is the abatement itself. Our licensed technicians, wearing full personal protective equipment (PPE), enter the containment area and begin the work.
All asbestos-containing materials are first wetted down with a special solution to prevent fibers from becoming airborne.
The materials are carefully removed, sealed in specialized, leak-proof disposal bags, and staged for transport.
This is the most variable part of the timeline, as it depends on the factors listed above.
Final Day: Decontamination and Air Testing. The job isn't done just because the materials are gone.
Cleaning: The entire containment area is meticulously cleaned using a multi-step process that includes HEPA vacuuming and wet-wiping every surface.
Air Testing: This is the most critical step. A third-party, independent air testing professional will come in to conduct "clearance air sampling." They take samples from the air inside the containment and send them to a lab to ensure the fiber count is below the legal, safe limit.
Breakdown: Only after we receive a "pass" from the lab (which can take several hours to a day) will we take down the containment barriers.
